Inconsistent sleep for 14 week old
"My 14 week old breastfeed exclusively daughter goes down by 8pm and is not consistent with the amount of sleep she gives us.HI, Shannon,
She sometimes gives me 6 hours in a row, then breast and down another 3. Then the next day, she may be up every 2 hours.
She is a healthy 16lb baby, who did have severe acid reflux up until 10 weeks of age.
Any suggestions?"
- Shannon
Have you tried any of the tips from the website, about following your baby's signs of sleepiness that tend to arise about 90 minutes after awakening?
I can't tell whether or not you've read the book, but it's not necessary to read the book. The website has tips to follow.
Polly.

Hi Polly,
I have not read your book yet, I just ordered one. I'm desperately read your website questions to try to find some answers. I am uncertain I can continue to do this every night. I have a 2 1/2 year old as well, who sleeps great (thankfully) but he runs me ragged through the day and my 16 week old is killing me at night. I'm at the point of losing it and was trying to get someone to tell me that this is somewhat normal and its just not me!!! I have read many books and researched so many websites....yours seems to have the answers I'm looking for. I just need the right direction to go.
Her naps vary. She was giving me 2 naps at 1-2 hours each then a 30-45 minute one. This was up until 13-14 weeks old then only gives me 30-40 minute naps. (She did get sick with an ear infection at 14 weeks, this caused her naps and night time sleep to change to the above)
When she is tired, she rubs her eyes and face into our chest. I feed her and put her down where she fights sleep. She hates pacifiers and swaddles. I just don't know what else to do.
Thank you for emailing me back. I will await your book.
Thank you.
Shannon
Hang in there, Shannon.
I hope you even find time to read the book, you sound quite busy, and even though those days are a distant memory for me now (my kids are 12 and 10 years now), how VIVIDLY I can recall how wiped out I felt virtually all the time. I remember feeling like my kids were actually scientists running a sleep deprivation experiment (in which I was the subject, of course). It was yucky.
If you're pressed for time, don't even read chapters 1 - 3, just go straight to chapter 4. Chapter 4 has the step by steps to follow. The key is learning to recognize the signs of sleepiness, and then responding with alacrity. There is a "code" and you will be able to crack it. I promise.
If you follow those steps faithfully, you will see results QUICKLY. And hopefully get some relief. I know it's really really hard, Shannon, but know that I appreciate your efforts.
Polly.
